Top 5 Communication Apps on Android in Africa Q2 2024

In the second quarter of 2024, the performance of the top five communication apps on the Android platform in Africa exhibited diverse trends in terms of downloads, revenue, and active users. Here’s an overview of how WhatsApp Messenger, WhatsApp Business, Messenger, Telegram, and Snapchat fared.

WhatsApp Messenger maintained a strong presence with weekly downloads fluctuating between 1.2M and 1.7M. Active users consistently increased from approximately 137M to nearly 140M by the end of the quarter.

WhatsApp Business also saw stable performance in weekly downloads, ranging from around 640K to 905K. Active users showed a steady rise from roughly 12M to over 12.4M across the quarter.

Messenger experienced variable weekly downloads, starting at about 1.4M and dipping to around 519K, before climbing back to over 809K. Active users showed a positive trend, increasing from approximately 94.7M to 96M.

Telegram saw its weekly downloads rise from around 586K to over 928K. The app's weekly revenue peaked at about $7.9K, with a general upward trend in active users from approximately 22.8M to 24M.

Snapchat had notable weekly downloads, peaking at over 656K and maintaining figures around 377K to 497K. Revenue showed an upward trend, reaching over $2K by the end of June. Active users exhibited growth from approximately 28.9M to nearly 29.9M.
